This may help to reduce cellular aging.
New research shows that as we age, levels of the molecule taurine in our blood decrease. This decline has been observed in mice, monkeys, and humans. Interestingly, when taurine levels were boosted through supplementation, both mice and monkeys experienced longer, healthier lives. Taurine appears to work by reducing cell aging, protecting critical genetic components, improving mitochondrial function, and reducing inflammation and DNA damage. In humans, low taurine levels were linked to age-related diseases, but increased after physical exercise. The findings suggest that taurine could be a key factor in aging, and human clinical trials are now seen as the next step.
