Heart health is important for everyone, and what we eat plays a big role. A small study looked at how olive oil, compared to butter, affects our heart health markers, like blood pressure and cholesterol level (Liang F, et.al.,2023).
People from two different backgrounds, Chinese and European, participated in this cross-over, randomized controlled dietary intervention for 2 weeks.
For two weeks, they used extra virgin olive oil, and for two weeks they used butter in their diets. The results were promising!
Everyone when they used olive oil had better blood pressure readings throughout the day and night.
When they ate butter their total cholesterol and LDL increased, but not when they used olive oil.
This study tells us that swapping butter for olive oil could be a smart move for our hearts, no matter where we're from.
