The Impact of Good Blood Circulation on Brain Health

Intracranial arterial stenosis, or the narrowing of major brain arteries, may impact the progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (Zhu J. et al.,2014).

In a study of 423 participants with MCI, researchers used CT angiography to measure artery narrowing and followed up with annual cognitive and functional evaluations for four years.

By the end of the study, 116 participants had developed AD, while 223 remained in the MCI stage.

Those with moderate or severe stenosis experienced a faster decline in cognition and daily functioning.

Even after adjusting for various factors, the presence of significant arterial stenosis was linked to a higher risk of progressing to AD.
