In this study a total of 285 participants with stable coronary artery disease being treated with statin were given either 3.36 g of EPA and DHA or a placebo for 30 months ( Malik A, et.al., 2021).
EPA and DHA are omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil.
Cognitive function was measure at the start of the study and at 12- and 30-months follow-up. Neuropsychological testing was also performed.
After 30 months, the participants taking EPA and DHA had significantly better scores than the control group for verbal fluency, language, and memory, including 2 tests of visual-motor coordination.
When taking omega 3 fish oil be sure to use a formula with higher levels of EPA and DHA.
