benefits of combining aerobic and resistance training for women with obesity

Improving cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) can significantly reduce health risks linked to obesity. While most research focuses on aerobic exercise, this study evaluated resistance training combined with aerobic exercise for women with obesity (Davis ME, et.al.,2024).

The study involved 67 women divided into control and three exercise groups: aerobic (AE), resistance (RE), and combined (COM). Each group trained three times a week for 12 weeks. The study measured CRF, body composition, strength, and other health factors.

Results showed all exercise types were beneficial. However, resistance and combined exercises provided the best improvements. Combined exercise was particularly effective for body composition, mood, and sleep. Resistance exercise excelled in boosting CRF and strength.

Overall, including resistance training in exercise plans for women with obesity is crucial for meaningful health benefits.

Combination exercises are more beneficial for everybody, even if you don’t need to lose weight.
