The pathogen of COVID-19 enters cells through binding to the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) (Aksoy H, et.al., 2020).
ACE2 is highly expressed in adipose tissue. This contributes to increased viral transmission in COVID-19 patients with obesity.
The following study investigated the effects of 30-days resveratrol supplementation in men with obesity ( de Light M, et.al., 2021). The research was a placebo-controlled cross-over study.
The results showed that resveratrol markedly reduced Ace2 by 40% in adipose tissue.
The researchers stated that this might dampen viral spread in COVID-19.
Resveratrol has been documented to provide several other benefits as well, one of them is reducing inflammation.
