Flavonoids or bioflavonoids are compound found in plants that are highly beneficial for both humans and animals.

Flavonoids interact with various signaling protein pathways and modulate their actions, producing beneficial neuroprotective effects. They also improve vascular blood flow and instigate nerve growth, particularly in the hippocampus, an area of the brain associated with memory (Ayaz M, et al., 2019).

Flavonoids also reduce the symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases by inhibiting neuronal death induced by neurotoxic substances including free radicals and β-amyloid proteins.

Several studies have documented that executive function and working memory are 2 areas of memory which have shown to significantly improve as a function of flavonoid supplementation compared to a control group (Macready A, et al., 2009).

This is how you can benefit from this information.

Eat a more plant based diet, but also take supplements that provide these kind of substances, because it can be difficult to get an adequate supply of bioflavonoids from the diet, and supplements can provide them in a more concentrated form.
