The research reviewed here is interesting because it provides information which can easily be adapted on a daily bases and provide cardiovascular benefits (Karatzi K, et al. 2012). The researchers investigated the effects of sesame oil on endothelium function. The endothelium is the inner layer of the blood vessels. The participants were men with hypertension (high blood pressure). Endothelium function was evaluated by flow- mediated dilatation of the brachial artery and by measuring intracellular adhesion molecule levels at the beginning of the study and at 15, 30 and 60 days. The participants consumed 35 grams of sesame oil or a control oil daily for 60 days. The results documented that flow-mediated dilatation improved significantly both after acute and long term sesame oil consumption while intracellular adhesion molecule levels decreased significantly after 60 days. By making a Japanese type salad dressing using sesame oil, you can easily take advantage of this research, if you use the dressing on your salads regularly.
