What Can Taking Breaks From Sitting Do for You?

the benefits of taking breaks from sitting for your health

A new study shows that sitting too much at work can harm your health (Gao W, et.al., 2024). Individuals who mostly sat at work had a 16% higher all-cause mortality risk, and a 34% increased mortality risk from cardiovascular disease.

But good news! If you move more during your free time—even just 15 to 30 minutes a day—it can lower the risk, almost like you weren’t sitting all day.

They also found that alternating between sitting and non-sitting at work doesn’t increase the risk. So, moving more and sitting less is key to a healthier life.

Think about it. Taking short breaks from sitting doesn’t have to be that difficult.
