Can blueberries improve vascular function?

The reason to conduct the following research was to investigate the impact of blueberry flavonoid intake on endothelial function in healthy men (Rodriguez-Mateos A, et.al., 2013).

Two randomized, controlled, double-blind, crossover human-intervention trials were conducted with 21 healthy men.

The impact of blueberry flavonoid intake on flow-mediated dilation and polyphenol absorption and metabolism was assessed at baseline and 1, 2, 4, and 6 hours after consumption of blueberries containing 766, 1278, and 1791 mg of total blueberry polyphenols or a placebo drink.

1 h after consumption, flow-mediated dilation increased dose dependently to 766 mg of total blueberry polyphenol intake, after which flow-mediated dilation plateaued.

This showed that blueberry intake improves vascular function in healthy men in a time- and intakedependent manner.

Eating some few blueberries after your meals can help you improve your vascular function.
