How do changes in body composition affect cardiovascular risk?

By March 23, 2023November 9th, 2025No Comments1 min read

This study included 1048 participants between the age of 50 and 80 years old without cardiovascular disease (Hu T, et. al., 2023).

The researchers investigated the associations of 2-year changes in fat percentage and fat-free mass percentage with occurring cardiovascular events.

This is what they found. The participants with a fat% gain of 2% or more had an increased risk of cardiovascular events when compared with participants with a stable fat%.

They also found that fat-free mass percentage loss of 2% was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events.
