Mobile Phone Use Caution, Biological Research
For quite a while there has been a concern related to the possible harmful effects from the use of mobile phones, since they expose us to electromagnetic radiation. The reviewed research was interesting because the study focused on specific changes related to tissues located close to the ear(Hamzany Y, et al. 2013).
The participants had used mobile phones for an average of 12.5 years and the average use was 29.6 hours per month. Deaf individuals were used as a control. Markers of salivary oxidative stress were measured and other tests were also included.
The results showed a significant increase in all salivary oxidative stress markers studied for the mobile phone users. It was also found that salivary flow, total protein, albumin and amylase activity were decreased in the mobile phone users.
Mobile phones are very convenient, but it is a good idea to protect yourself as much as you can from possible unwanted effects by using earphones and avoiding close contact.
